The Birmingham Psychology GroupYou've tried tutoring, extra help, and more practice — but nothing seems to actually fix the problem.
In many cases, the real issue simply hasn't been identified yet.
No pressure. Just a quick call to see if this is the right next step.
These are common signs we see before parents realize something deeper may be going on.
Struggles to read fluently or understand what they read — even with practice
Falling behind in math or struggling with basic concepts
Gets frustrated easily, shuts down, or avoids schoolwork
Takes much longer than expected to complete assignments
Tutoring helps briefly… but the problems keep coming back
Clearly smart — but can't seem to show it in their schoolwork
Dreads school, complains often, or says they "hate school"
Teachers say to "try harder" — but trying harder isn't working
If you're noticing several of these… it's often a sign something deeper is being missed.
Many children who struggle in school are working incredibly hard — and trying their best. When a child keeps hitting a wall despite real effort, it's often a sign something in how their brain processes information is making things harder than it should be.
Reading difficulties, writing struggles, or math issues are not uncommon — and they respond well to the right kind of support. But the key is this: you can't choose the right support until you understand what's actually going on.
That's exactly what a comprehensive evaluation is designed to uncover.
Once we understood why our son was struggling, everything changed. For the first time, we knew how to help him — the right way.

Simple, clear, and designed to give you answers quickly — without pressure or guesswork.
Step 01
Reach out by phone or through this page to speak with our intake coordinator. This is a brief, no-pressure conversation where we'll listen to what you've been noticing and help you understand whether an intake is the right next step.
We'll answer your initial questions, explain how the process works, and help you feel confident about what to do next — including whether scheduling an intake makes sense.
Step 02
Most families start here
This is a private, no-pressure session focused entirely on understanding your child — their history, challenges, and what you've been noticing at home and school.
We'll walk you through a clear plan and help you understand what may be going on — and what to do next. Many parents leave this session feeling more confident, supported, and finally on the right path to getting answers.
Most families start here before deciding on next steps.
The intake is $230, and we'll walk you through everything clearly — including whether further evaluation is even necessary — before you make any decisions.
No pressure. No obligation to move forward.
Not every child needs a full evaluation — and if they don't, we'll tell you upfront.
Step 03
If a full evaluation is recommended, we'll complete it in a child-friendly, supportive environment designed to help your child feel comfortable and understood.
This process allows us to identify what's actually going on — whether it's related to learning, attention, processing, or other factors.
You'll receive a detailed, easy-to-understand report with clear explanations (and diagnoses, if applicable), along with practical, actionable recommendations you can actually use.
Most importantly, you'll leave with greater clarity on what's happening — and a clear plan for what to do next, even if that includes further evaluation or next steps.
Summer is the ideal time to do this — no missed school days, no playing catch-up. Your child gets answers before the year even begins.
